The Wedding Present Channel The Space Race For ‘Panama’

Watch the new video from the indie legends...

The Wedding Present are forever changing.

Led by David Gedge, the indie luminaries released an excellent studio album in 2017, before allowing subtle shifts to creep into the way they make music.

Danielle Wadey has moved from bass to guitar, and she co-writes the group's new two-piece single.

'Jump In, The Water's Fine' comes backed with 'Panama', and the single – available on 7” and limited edition 10” picture disc – is out now on Come Play With Me.

Recorded at Monnow Valley studios in Wales, the single presents a band with melody at their fingertips and fire in their bellies.

B-side is the flip, and it's an indie pop squall, with its frenetic guitar lines colliding with lyrics that discuss alienation, love, and friendship.

David Gedge explains: “As well as including one of my favourite palindromes, ‘Panama’ references ‘Earthrise’, the iconic photograph of Earth taken by astronaut Bill Anders (during the Apollo 8 mission) on Christmas Eve, 1968. We decided to incorporate samples of the astronauts talking to Mission Control.”

The video picks up on this reference, with The Wedding Present channelling the space race while using archive footage. Tune in now.
