It was a chance overlapping of extra-dimensional forces that brought International Teachers Of Pop together.
Meeting at a circuit bending workshop, core members Adrian Flanagan (The Moonlandingz / Eccentronic Research Council), Dean Honer (Moonlandingz / All Seeing I) and singer Leonore Wheatley (The Soundcarriers / Whyte Horses) immediately hit it off.
A fuse was lit, with the trio's first live show taking place shortly afterwards - performing in in a cave in Derbyshire, known as The Devil's Arse, at the personal behest of Jarvis Cocker.
Heading into the studio, their squelchy, surreal pop takes a new turn on 'After Dark', a bold, defiantly left field slice of digital pop.
A kind of devoutly English take on Giorgio Moroder's work, Adrian Flanagan introduces is thus:
“We are big fans of Moroder’s work with Donna Summer and early Chicory Tip - also love Bobby O’s work with The Pet Shop Boys..I love the boldness and sexiness of those records but I also love how fresh they still sound... What I love specifically about The Pet Shop Boys was that they managed to take a very European Disco Pop sound and stamp an Englishness on it with the vocals, which is something we find very, very appealing, being practitioners of great English Pop!”
The visuals are every bit as addictive as the music, featuring actress Maxine Peake and a member of the Fat White Family. Adrian continues:
“Maxine is a long time collaborator with my other project, Eccentronic Research Council, so when ever I want someone to purge the daft ideas in my head and give them some kind of fuzzy artistic logic I always call on my bestest pal, Maxine. She’s the Klaus Kinski to my Werner Herzog. And although our video making budget only stretches to getting props and catering from B & M Bargains, I think we make it work for us, we always manage to pull the ship over the mountain!”
