Featuring Marina Maximilian and Loco Hot...

The first releases from a new label tend to define its approach and aesthetic in the eyes of fans.

So, best pick carefully. Ape Records is a newly inaugurated imprint, dedicating to unearthing unique talent from around the globe.

It's first two releases certainly do that. Loco Hot is a duo comprised of producer / drummer Tamir Muskat and singer Gilad Kahana, who have a cult following in Israel.

New cut 'I'm A Tribe' features assistance from A-WA, a band of three sisters who fuse Yemenite traditional music with hip-hop and electronica.

It's a remarkable release, fusing the old with the new, the traditional with the defiantly irreverent. The visuals are every bit as out-there... tune in below.

Marina Maximilian's 'My Boy' will be released on the same day - born in Ukraine, she was brought up in Israel and this sense of existing between two worlds informs her songwriting.

Lavish, off-centre songwriting, you check it out now.
