Band in final stages of new LP

Legendary American rock group Sonic Youth are in the final stages of preparing their new album, guitarist Thurston Moore has claimed in a new interview.

Born out of the ashes of the No Wave movement, Sonic Youth blend extreme dissonance to a grasp of classic rock songwriting. With a back catalogue that stretches over 25 years and contains countless classic albums, Sonic Youth are one of the most pre-eminent groups still operating anywhere on the planet.

Sonic Youth have been rather inactive of late, preferring to focus on personal activities and other artistic pursuits. The band re-released seminal LP 'Daydream Nation' as a double disc extravaganza in 2007, but their last album was 'Rather Ripped' way back in 2006.

Guitarist Thurston Moore told Uncut magazine that a new release should be on the way. "Our focus right now is a record replete with juicy supersonic songs!" he claimed.

Now in its final stages of mixing, the album has the working title of 'The Eternal' and will be released later this year.
