New release on Southend's Cool Thing Records

Contrary to what some would have you believe, there is life beyond London.

Outside the capital, the UK's music scene is thriving with all manner of collectives, imprints and DIY networks allowing young talent to flourish.

Southend-on-Sea may have lost its seaside glamour somewhat, but hasn't put off the area's musicians. With its small but energetic batch of venues and promoters, the town boasts a thriving and deeply independent scene.

Cool Thing Records aims to become a point for this talent to coalesce around. A newly minted label, Cool Thing is set to launch with a free download from Asylums.

Local lads made good, Asylums' new cut 'The Death Of Television' is frenetic post-hardcore with a pop edge. Think Johnny Foreigner, say, or McLusky let loose with a cowbell.

Check out the video for 'The Death Of Television' below - or check out the SoundCloud player after the jump. Download 'The Death Of Television' HERE.

Cool Thing Records is set to be inaugurated at a special party on August 29th at The Market Place, Southend.
