Nina Nesbitt grew up in a village outside Edinburgh, a small place where the television seemed to beam in another world.
Enraptured by late 90s pop stars - think Britney, Xtina, Destiny's Child - the star returns to these influences on her new single.
'Loyal To Me' borrows many of those late 90s tropes, ranging from a hint of acoustic guitar down to the vocal effects, and does so in a loving way.
Yet as ever with Nina she twists this in a personal way, discovering something new in the process.
"'Loyal To Me' is influenced by the independent-women spirit of the 90s and is a self-help guide to dating," Nina explains. "It’s a list of symptoms you need to look out for when you fear you may be dating someone who doesn’t have the best intentions."
Produced by Frazer T Smith - who credits include Adele, Stormzy and more - 'Loyal To Me' is another dynamic twist from an extremely independent pop artist.
