MUNA’s ‘Stayaway’ Is A Vessel For Positivity

"For us, today, this song is a reminder of how hard it once was..."

Sometimes it can be hard to stay positive.

Lord knows MUNA found that out the hard way. The Los Angeles trio try to rise above it all, and they've learned that to make the best music – the songs that are most true to themselves – they need to stay positive and open.

It's a theme that drives new single 'Stayaway' forward to fresh heights, matching R&B elements to their speckled alt-pop.

Lashings of colour adorn the new release, with MUNA establishing their own pattern, their own route.

MUNA explain…

"'Stayaway' is a song about trying to rid yourself of a negative pattern and realising that it requires you to make a whole network of other changes, like pulling at a small weed to reveal a dense and mighty root system. If we try to just rip the pattern out on its own, maybe it will stay gone for a little while, but soon enough it will grow back because it’s supported by all the other things we do and how we do them – by our way of life."

"Staying away for good requires a careful dismantling and reconstruction of the whole root system, down to the way we think. For us, today, this song is a reminder of how hard it once was. We listen to it and feel free, proud, and grateful."

MUNA will release new album 'Saves The World' on September 6th. Catch MUNA at London's Village Underground on September 10th.
