Welsh group announce digital release

Welsh rock heroes Manic Street Preachers are due to release a digital remix EP next Monday (June 15th).

Manic Street Preachers. formed as a quartet in the Welsh mining town of Blackwood. Fired up by Guns N Roses, their mum's lipstick and socialist politics the band's thought provoking blend of glam-punk caused huge controversy.

However the pressures of touring the country amid vast opposition to their toll on the group. While each member struggled, lyricist and visual lynchpin Richey Edwards fell into a darker depression.

Entering rehab multiple times the cult icon sketched out the lyrics for the band's tortuous album 'The Holy Bible' before disappearing in 1995. Stunned and grief-stricken, Manic Street Preachers chose to continue and became the success they had always promised they would be.

Last year Richey Edwards was legally declared dead by his family, and shortly after the group he left behind announced they would put music to his lyrics. Released as 'Journal For Plague Lovers' the resulting album is one of the year's most thrilling and fascinating releases.

In another break from tradition, the normally dance-phobic Manic Street Preachers are due to allow a variety of producers to remix their material. Released later this year, the album features tracks from 'Journal For Plague Lovers' remixed by the likes of Patrick Wolf, Underworld, Saint Etienne and New Young Pony Club.

Before then, however, the group are set to give fans an exclusive preview of the experiment with the release of a new remix EP. The EP features a number of tracks from the forthcoming remix album, with Manic Street Preachers being reworked by a number of stunning talents.

Even after two decades Manic Street Preachers are still capable of surprising their most devoted fans.
