Star shamed for wearing fur

Queen of Pop Madonna has been named the Worst Dresser of 2009 by the animal rights organisation PETA.

The singer enjoyed a massively successful year in 2008, with her 'Sticky And Sweet' tour breaking all records for live appearances by a solo artist.

Named as the highest earning musician of last year, things were looking rosy for the Material Girl until PETA popped its head up. The organisation's annual poll names and shames those in the public profile who choose to wear fur.

PETA said of Madonna: “When you see Madonna in fur, you realise why nobody has copied her style since 1984. We know that she's on the prowl for a young cub, but someone needs to tell Madge that wearing fur doesn't make you a cougar.”

Madonna divorced from her husband Guy Ritchie last year, and has been linked with numerous toy boys. Also named in the poll were the Olsen Twins, Maggie Gyllenhall and hip hop star Kanye West.

In contrast the organisation praised X Factor winner Leona Lewis. The singer is massive in Britain and the United States, and has been vocal in her support of vegetarianism and animal rights.

Lewis turned down the opportunity to open the Harrods Winter Sale last year, allegedly due to its decision to stock fur.
