For a while there The Stands were something rather special.
Astute pop classicism with a veil of the personal, the band's output was treasured by those lucky enough to come across it.
Songwriter Howie Payne went on to release an Ethan Johns produced solo album in 2009, before taking a step back.
Set to release a full solo album this Autumn, the English artist has also helped oversee a new Stands box set due for release this summer.
Clash is always keen to look to the future, and we've nabbed a new solo cut from Howie Payne, one that will appear on his upcoming solo LP.
'The Brightest Star' is a real joy, a fresh, breezy piece of acoustic-flecked pop. The video is simple yet entrancing - here's Howie to introduce it...
"My wife Jacqueline Passmore is a filmmaker, and we were up on Hampstead Heath on a beautiful June morning, one of those magical days that feels like first day of summer."
"I'd just finished 'The Brightest Star' and we were talking about how it might be fun to make a video together for it. As we were talking it just hit us, this is the perfect moment, let's just film it now and catch it."
"So we grabbed a guitar and a bit of glass to use as a filter and Jac filmed it on her iPhone and then added all the cool colour and superimposition stuff to it to it that evening."
Tune in now.
