'Blackstar' is the bookie's choice...
Hyundai Mercury Prize 2016

William Hill have immediately made David Bowie the favourite to win this year's Hyundai Mercury Prize.

The shortlist for the trophy was unveiled yesterday (August 4th) and it looks to be a close call.

On first glimpse, titanic efforts from ANOHNI, Michael Kiwanuka, and Radiohead catch the eye, with Kano and Skepta ably representing the grime scene.

David Bowie's 'Blackstar', however, might just trump the lot. Released a matter of days before the icon's death, it's a stunning release, one that can undoubtedly stand alongside some of his finest work.

William Hill clearly agree, and have installed Bowie as the favourite for this year's Mercury. “This year’s shortlist looks very strong but all the bets are for Bowie and I certainly would not bet against him winning,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

For betting folk amongst you, the odds are:

7/4 David Bowie
11/2 Radiohead
6/1 Anohni
8/1 Michael Kiwanuka
9/1 Skepta
12/1 The 1975
14/1 Kano
14/1 Laura Mvula
14/1 Savages
16/1 Bat for Lashes
20/1 Jamie Woon
25/1 The Comet is Coming
