Darren Hayman Hits New Heights With ‘I Tried And I Tried And I Failed’

The video is simple but effective...

Darren Hayman has always been aware of the function music can fulfil.

A songwriter with a rare work ethic – 14 albums across 15 years, and counting – he's most recently moved through a phase of themed releases.

Albums such as 'Thankful Villages' were rooted in certain spaces, with that release in particular exploring the villages left relatively unharmed by the First World War.

New album 'Home Time' finds the one-time Hefner singer returning to something more distilled, returning to his roots as a songwriter.

He explains: "With projects like 'Thankful Villages', I became interested in what a record could be, using field recordings, interviews and songs to make sound collages. I wanted to return to the stricter art of songwriting and try and make the twelve best compositions I could."

"I wanted to make useful songs, words that could be comfort, not just thoughts that would depress."

'I Tried And I Tried And I Failed' is a key component of the album, with its gentle ruminations taking on a subtly meditative quality.

Darren Hayman's indie pop roots shine through, with his melodic turn of phrase matched to a desire for originality that has only increased over time.

The video is simple but effective, a one shot clip looking at someone dozing in bed.

Tune in now.
