Calvin Harris On England’s World Cup Exit

Producer causes football furore

Scottish dance producer Calvin Harris has caused a furious row after claiming that England “just aren’t that good at football” following their world cup exit.

What is it with Scottish people? ClashMusic has two offices, one of which is in London and the other based in Dundee giving us two different perspectives on the rivalry between Scotland and England.

But the world cup seems to heighten tensions. Once again Scotland didn’t qualify, meaning that the entire nation were forced to support whichever team was played England at the time.

Eventually knocked out by Germany to the clear delight of the Scots, the English team recently sneaked in through the side door at Heathrow. Consoling fans on Twitter, Calvin Harris wrote: “England just aren’t that good at football compared to the rest of the world! It’s not a huge deal, it’s only a small country.”

Continuing, the dance producer wrote: “Think of the things England is good at, like music!”

The Scottish star caused an online row, with fans venting their fury at the producer. Following the initial posts Calvin Harris said “I’m Scottish, so that’s a completely unbiased opinion.” Before adding “England fans should watch this to make them feel better” ahead of a link.

However this doesn’t seem to placated fans, with Calvin Harris later writing: “And England had such a good world cup song this year – shame to see it go to waste : (“

Widely reported, Scottish tabloid The Daily Record have suggested that Calvin Harris is anti-English. Hmm… we wonder why. Replying to the suggestions the producer said: “Unbelievable. I’m half English!”.

England’s national football team have yet to respond to Calvin Harris’ Tweets.

On a musical tip, it seems that Calvin Harris has dragged himself away from social networking for long enough to work on new material. “I’m working on some stuff for some folk today, so far it’s been good!”
