"It’s supposed to be a fun and playful way at dealing with rejection..."

Love hurts, especially when you're young.

And it's easy to forget that Billie Eilish is still young - strikingly so.

Still only 17 years old, she actually wrote striking new single 'wish you were gay' when she was just 14 years old, a blast of precocious pop that deals with unrequited desire.

Online now, it's another storming return from the pop prodigy, the relentless twists and turns of the verse resolved by that punchy chorus.

She explains...

‘wish you were gay' is about wanting to be with someone so bad it hurts, and not wanting to accept that this person doesn’t want you in return. At least if they were gay, I’d have a valid reason for their rejection and lack of interest in being with me. I wrote the song when I was 14 and madly in love with a boy. It’s supposed to be a fun and playful way at dealing with rejection.
