In The Studio With Mosa Wild

In The Studio With Mosa Wild

As they construct their debut EP 'Talking In Circles'...

Mosa Wild want to raise the bar a little higher.

Utilising some classic indie tropes but expressing them in a vivid, highly personal way, debut EP 'Talking In Circles' is out on August 2nd Glassnote Records.

A bold introduction, it was constructed alongside highly experienced producers Jim Abbiss and James Kenosha.

The band took a camera into the studio with them, and smuggled out some shots - check them out now, alongside some insight from Mosa Wild...

We didn’t really go into the studio with any specific ideas about the recording process for this EP. As a band we like to have the opportunity to figure some things out when we get there. We believe in the idea of not having everything locked down before going in to leave room for creativity and exploration.

That's how some of our favourite records have come to life. As well as the rare luxuries of space to move, plenty of power sockets and no noise restrictions, one of our favourite things about getting into a studio is having a play with all of the old and expensive things we don’t normally have access to.

A big favourite of ours is the Juno 106 synth. We seem to end up using this quite often for pad sounds and no matter what studio we visit, we’re always happy to see one. The 106 can be heard on a few of the EP tracks, most notably ‘Honey’ and ‘Faultline’.

Another little interesting studio find was the Yamaha VSS-30. Its essentially a “toy” synth that has a really amazing lo-fi quality to it and this built in sampler. We used this to pitch various vocal samples and even create interesting pad sounds, it’s very sick.

We split our time between two studios for Talking in Circles. Working with Jim Abiss at his beautiful studio in Essex was such a great experience, we all learnt a great deal from this session. He worked with us to get the most out of our song arrangements and encouraged us to explore some of the more ‘live’ elements of the recording process with a very considered approach.

James Kenosha is an old friend of ours and the producer of ‘Smoke’ which is the earliest recording on this EP. Working with James is a very creative, relaxed process and as we began the journey of this body of work with him, it seemed fitting to complete the EP recording with him at his studio in Leeds.

Part of what makes this EP special to us is that this collection of songs represents a big part of our journey as a band up until now. The four of us have been working and creating together for a while and some of these songs have been with us since the beginning.

Now we’re just excited to head back into the studio, hand these songs over and see what meaning others can find in them.
