From Megabus journeys to Karate Kid guest stars...
Baby Strange

Glasgow's Baby Strange know a thing or two about travelling.

In an era when indie often seems shunted to the sidelines, the group have taken their music out on the road, connecting directly with fans in the process.

New single 'Pleasure City' is out now, and it's a stomping return from the Scottish band. "'Pleasure City' is about someone's attempt to escape the banality of daily life" says frontman Johnny Madden. "It's selfish, self-indulgent and self-destructive. It comes from a conflicted place in the mind that I'm sure others can relate to."

A universal theme, Clash decided that the time was right for Baby Strange to recall their touring tales...

Best Tour Trip...
Touring with Palma Violets was a lot of fun. They were kind enough to let us tour with them on their bus. It was our first time every stepping foot onto a tour bus so it was very cool to wake up inside one in a new city every day.

Worst Tour Trip...
We decided to travel by Megabus on a tour once. It's our biggest regret so far. It was grim.

My favourite foreign venue...
We've only played outside the UK once but the venue we played in Sweden was amazing. We'd love to go back and play it again.

We're surprisingly popular in...
We get a lot of people contacting us asking us to play in Mexico. Maybe we're popular there? Who knows.

Best and worst exotic foodstuff...
I've actually not tried much exotic food. It's something I'd like to try more of though.

The most interesting individual I've met on the road...
There was this American guy doing sound for us one night on tour and after the gig he told us he was in one of the Karate Kid movies. I'm not sure if he was lying or not but he was a character and made us laugh quite a lot.

My worst injury...
We had a bottle of sourz in our van sitting above us (in the overhead compartment), we needed to make a sharp turn and the bottle came flying down and split my head open. We were in the middle of nowhere so it was quite worrying at first but we decided to just keep driving to the venue. It wasn't a good look doing the soundcheck with blood soaked toilet roll all over my head.

My essential travel item...
A pillow.
