“I want to be more feminine. I want to do fashion,” Mapei informed Clash last year as Next Wave #590 (here). Fast forward seven months and Lykke Li’s former flatmate has had her wish granted, starring in Monki’s latest denim campaign alongside Marawa the Amazing.
“Monki is great at promoting young women,” the Swede by way of Rhode Island reckons, “It’s a quality that really resonates with me, so when this collaboration came up it felt really special.”
A hoola hooper and roller skater with a degree in Circus Arts – ! – for her part Marawa says that she really understands and shares Monki’s values and message: “A Monki girl is a smart, active person who likes to get things done,” she confirms.
The campaign sees the pair dressed up in their favourite pieces from the label’s latest denim efforts (naturally), which for SS15 translates as long white denim jackets, oversized black denim and plenty of rips in knees.
“This season we wanted to show our customers just how adaptable and fashion worthy denim really is,” notes Collection Manager and Concept Designer of Monki Denim, Martin Gustavsson.
The pair were shot by Tung Walsh, while Clash fave Anne Sophie Costa was responsible for the duo’s baby blue eye shadow.
