The label taps silk racing jackets for SS16 inspiration.

Look at the images above and a day at the races might not be your immediate thought, perhaps not even the thought that crosses your mind several minutes after that first glance.

But ‘Day at the Races’ is the moniker under which they fall, awarded to the new Cutler and Gross collection inspired by the ‘highly visible’ graphics of silk racing jackets.

Translated to the eyewear pieces here via colour – block shades such as Dark Mustard, Storm Blue and Crystal Black each appear alongside Nutmeg and Spearmint – stripes and graphic lines feature on ‘Italian Quarter’ aviators and acetate ‘Persian Queen’ frames. Elsewhere ‘Cadore Story’ makes a play for classics territory.

While our racing knowledge isn’t up to much, there’s no denying the team at C&G had fun mocking up would-be horse names for the new pieces…
