Perhaps the most accomplished designer River Island has hooked up with yet – a year ago he took home the inaugural BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Award – Christopher Shannon’s is the latest label to occupy a seat at the brand’s Design Forum round table.
Riffing on noted Shannon signatures (zips, applique and puffer’s all feature), the 11-piece collection will debut in September while an accompanying short film, as per RIDF rules, is to be screened during next weekend’s SS16 London Collections: Men.
“The brand has always been based in British culture,” states the Liverpudlian of his latest extra curricular project, “I think it’s good to keep connected with that and high street collaborations help us in achieving that goal.”
The collection – reportedly summed up by Shannon with the words ‘Call. The. Cops.’ – follows RIDF collaborations with James Long, Joseph Turvey and Katie Eary.
A dose of Christopher Shannon Lite for River Island’s menswear customer, the pieces occupy an aesthetic somewhere between the designer’s mainline collection and his Riri approved Kidda range.
