Burberry Unveils Autumn-Winter ’19 Campaign

Split personality...

Riccardo Tisci’s Burberry is one of dichotomy, of both freedom and refinement; all part of an evolving set of house codes implemented by the Italian designer in his debut collection for the British house last year. His latest collection, aptly named ‘Tempest’ debuted on the runway in February and has just been released as a seemingly dual-personality campaign.

The collection, which Tisci emphasised should be one that “transcends barriers and is inclusive to all”, plays with polarity and reflects his clashing codes of luxury and streetwear for a heritage brand under eager new leadership. The Chief Creative Officer enlisted the talents of fashion photographers Danko Steiner and Nick Knight to capture two contrasting scenes.

Steiner’s preened models with tightly wound buns and camel cashmere coats play with light and mirror boxes as they are met with the spontaneity of the ocean. “While the ocean is an enduring, beautiful backdrop for photography, we wanted the sea to play a larger part in the images,” says Danko in a statement, “the water is the source of change and discovery.”

Nick Knight opted for a more rugged approach in a more controlled environment. His seemingly candid shots feature the edgier side of the collection, capturing models ostensibly between takes in striped rugby shirts and parka coats against a concrete backdrop. “We wanted to break the idea of models posing and looking perfect and show a more real and unmanipulated vision,” says Knight, “I feel we focused on the raw and unpolished energy of youth.”

House regulars including Gigi Hadid, Sora Choi and Irina Shayk stand alongside a whole host of newcomers such as Freja Beha Erichsen, Finn Rosseel and Shayna McNeill to name a few.

The full collection is available to purchase globally in store and online from today.
