The Joubert Singers have a very unusual backstory.
French producer Julien Jabre became enraptured with a track named 'Stand On The Word', a stunning piece of disco-influenced gospel music that carried an immense spiritual weight.
As it turns out, The Joubert Singers – led by Phyllis McKoy Joubert – had recorded a full studio album back in 1982, but it had been shelved.
The Gallic house maestro tracked Phyllis down in 2007 via social media, opening up a conversation that saw the two share influences, and inspirations.
Now, The Joubert Singers are set to release two new studio albums: their 1982 recordings, and an entirely re-vamped version utilising the skills of Julien Jabre.
'Stand On The Word' is the first to emerge, and it's a hands-to-the-heavens piece of electronic music that sends shivers down the spine.
