Completing a gruelling tour, Frightened Rabbit were sure of one thing: they wanted a clean break from music.
The group were shattered, knackered, cream crackered... and frontman Scott Hutchison wasn't sure how to continue. Deciding to craft a solo project as a means of cleaning the slate, the singer took a handful of friends to Tobermory for two weeks of writing, recording and whisky drinking.
'Owl John' is the result. Out shortly, there's more grit here new fans might expect, with tracks such as 'Hate Music' laying bear the singer's own frustrations.
Given a Western themed video, 'Hate Music' becomes the tale of a businessman throwing away the shackles of his life. Scott Hutchison explains: "This song is about a desire to escape the grind and we wanted to put that idea into the video. Getting on a horse and going to your treehouse to read comics is the best way to leave the trials of the world behind, isn't it?"
