Brijs Turns Jai Paul’s ‘Jasmine’ Into A Disco-Influenced Monster

Check it out now...

Brijs has always put his own spin on things.

A deeply individual talent, the producer walks his own path, refusing to follow anyone else.

Entranced by Jai Paul's work – a slim but potent catalogue – the musician decided to re-work one of the reclusive Londoner's most potent songs.

'Jasmine' is a modern classic, a deft piece of digital soul with a slumped beat and those vivid, technicolour synths.

Brijs explains: "I’ve always heard a disco banger hidden somewhere beneath the magnificent depths of the original and finally decided to eek it out."

"I can’t speak for Jai," says Brijs, "but for me this song came to represent insecurity in two relationships with people who were way out of my league. I wanted to frame that bittersweet place between the flattery of the attention from that person we are infatuated with and the anxiety of believing they deserve better."

The results are sparkling disco fare, a searing, soaring piece of electronics with a delicious pop edge.

It still retains the core elements of the original, though; he explains, "The song speaks to an underdog in love.”
