DJ Premier Drops All-Star ‘Hip-Hop 50: Volume 1’ EP

Featuring a host of fantastic artists...

Mass Appeal are here to celebrate – a mission to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop.

Hip hop’s influence on contemporary culture is staggering – from fashion to linguistics, hip-hop has infused all corners of society over the years. But, of course, the primary impact can be seen when turning on the radio; 50 years on from the initial seed of the genre was planted, hip-hop has flourished and become an integral fixture in the world of music. Blossoming waves of crunk, trip hop, and most recently Soundcloud rap, hip hop is defined by its constant push for innovation, the posterchild of resisting boundaries and constructing new sounds. And that’s exactly why Mass Appeal are releasing the ‘Hip Hop 50: The Soundtrack’ – to honour and celebrate the unstoppable force that is hip-hop.

Taking the form of 10 staggered EP releases, ‘Hip Hop 50: The Soundtrack’ serves as a celebration of hip hop’s 50th birthday. The soundtrack serves as a star-studded smorgasbord of hip-hop’s finest, with the first EP release, ‘DJ Premier: Hip Hop 50 Volume1’, featuring the likes of Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels and Joey Bada$$ to name a few.

Future releases are set to be curated by some mighty hip-hop innovators; Swizz Beatz, Mustard, No I.D., Hit-Boy and Tainy are a selection of artists throwing their hat into the ring, eager to celebrate this magnificent milestone for the genre.

Speaking on the releases, Volume 1 curator DJ Premier emphasises that, while the release is honouring the genre’s impact, being involved in the project is an honour in itself; “it’s an honour to kick off this iconic Hip-Hop 50 music program. Hip-hop continues to inspire fans across the globe and it’s incredible to think of what the next 50-years will bring,” DJ Premier comments.

Mass Appeal’s series of releases sits alongside their #HipHop50 initiative – a movement set on celebrating hip hop’s birthday in an immersive, innovative way. A portion of all #HipHop50 are set to be donated to a selection of charities and organisations, one of which being the upcoming opening 2024 of the Universal Hip Hop Museum.

While the Universal Hip-Hop Museum is set to honour hip-hop’s roots, Mass Appeal’s recent partnership with Live Nation Urban is also sure to define the future of the genre; the collaboration aims to produce live events celebrating live music and hip-hop.
