From the opening desert-washed strings of ‘My Silver Lining’, the first track on Klara and Johanna Söderberg’s third album, it’s clear that the First Aid Kit sisters have reached a transcendent point in their career.
With lyrics dripping with casual poetic nuance and bold, full arrangements, ‘Stay Gold’ is at once an arresting set of classic country reference points as well as a towering body of stirring, beguilingly original songs.
The album’s title track sees the girls take the Fleet Foxes template - namely songs that straddle that blurry line between icy melancholia and muted euphoria – and effortlessly shift that oeuvre into the timeless zone occupied by the likes of Leonard Cohen.
