Track Of The Day 20/4 – MNEK

'Tongue' (Jarreau Vandal Remix)

Pop polymath MNEK just loves to stretch.

Still a music obsessive, the London talent absorbs everything in his path, from sparkling neo-soul to underground hip-hop and beyond.

New track 'Tongue' reflects this magpie-like approach, a mosaic of fresh sounds patched together in that instantly recognisable style.

Still only 23 years old, the sheer maturity with which MNEK approaches his songwriting is matched to that perennial freshness, gliding some colour to colour, hue to aural hue.

It's a neat return, concise but endlessly fascinating, all while being ridiculously easy on the ears. Perfect remix fare, then…

With that in mind, Soulection cohort and sought-after producer Jarreau Vandal has grabbed 'Tongue' and delivered a sensational re-working.

Sluiced through with vivid colour, he seems to sharpen each tone, adding a relentless parade of fresh ideas. MNEK is a fan:

"I'm a fan of Jarreau’s work and I love what he has done to Tongue. It’s given it a more chilled, relaxed R&B vibe, and I’m so happy he got a chance to re envision it to his liking!"
