There must be something magical and mysterious in the glacial waters of Iceland, so prolific and creatively adventurous are its peoples. As any discerning music fan knows, there’s so much more to this exquisitely isolated island that Bjork, Mum and Sigur Rós (as beauteous as they are).
Reykjavik Music Mess has announced the full line up for its upcoming festival on May 24-26th, to be held in venues across the city. Featuring an impressive roster of local and international artists it’s as dynamic and exquisitely eccentric a line up as one could summon from the ether.
Iceland’s healthily incestuous and uniquely resilient music scene truly boasts artists of a world class standard. This micro gem of a festival sounds something akin to Scotland’s Fence Collective curated Homegame, equally bristling with talent and an intimacy often lost at larger field festivals.
The eclectic line up features locals Oyama, shoe gaze resurgent’s channelling the multi layered guitars and reverb of MBV and Sonic Youth with earnest indie poppers Bloodgroup and Mammút representing for the ladies; another pleasing aspect of the local scene.
Toss in the intriguing Edinburgh based Daniel Johnston-esque troubadour Withered Hand and discordant Aussie sleaze rockers DZ Deathrays and you’ve got yourself one hell of a perky Nordic salad and frankly, just about the perfect start to you summer…we’ve already packed.
DZ DEATHRAYS (AUS)
GOOD MOON DEER
JUST ANOTHER SNAKE CULT
WITHERED HAND (UK)
