Planningtorock has stepped in to re-work The Knife on new track 'Let's Talk About Gender Baby, Let's Talk About You and Me'.
The Knife returned earlier this year with their dark, and occasionally unforgiving new album 'Shaking The Habitual'. Lyrically, the material focussed on gender politics, exploring modern constructions of masculine and feminine.
Themes which are also common in Janine Rostron's work. Under her Planningtorock moniker the Berlin based artist released the 'Misogyny Drop Dead' EP earlier this year - just in time for International Women's Day.
Now Planningtorock has covered 'Shaking The Habitual' cut 'Full Of Fire'. Focussing on one lyric, the re-tooled version has been named 'Let's Talk About Gender Baby, Let's Talk About You and Me'.
"Going through the tracks I pulled the awesome lyric ‘Let's Talk About Gender Baby Lets Talk About You and Me’ out from ‘Full of Fire’ and was completely moved by its groovy directness .. started recording this super fun bass line and totally went for a funky celebration feel."
Due to be released on October 14th, you can hear 'Let's Talk About Gender Baby, Let's Talk About You and Me' below.
Clash spoke to Planningtorock earlier this year for an extensive piece focussing on contemporary notions of androgyny in pop culture - check it out HERE.
