Motor City Drum Ensemble has always been a curious proposition.
For starters, the 'ensemble' is just one bloke - and he's not even from Detroit. German producer Danilo Plessow gathers lush, warm textures from North America's deep house legacy, bonding it with a love of jagged machine funk.
After a relatively quiet 2012 the beatsmith swung into action in January, releasing a four track EP via his own MCDE imprint and Rush Hour Recordings. Honing his style and accepting new influences, Motor City Drum Ensemble manages to stay on the cusp by establishing his own sound, his own identity.
With Dimensions Festival returning summer, Motor City Drum Ensemble will take part in the event's London warm up party on March 2nd. Due to perform an in-store at Phonica that afternoon, Danilo Plessow has scripted this list of his current top plays.

1. Levon Vincent - Rainstorm II
Levon can do no wrong in my opinion. One of the best artists to emerge in the past couple years and his latest 12" proves again why he is in such high demand.
2. Mike Grant - The Struggle for my People (Mr G Remix)
I have been after the original on Moods & Grooves for a long time, so I am really happy this got a repress. For me this is Mr G`s finest work to date.
3. Michael Gracioppo - My So-Called Friends (Fred P Remix)
Upcoming 10" on my label from Candian newcomer Michael Gracioppo. The original is a really tripped out affair and Fred's remix brings it to the dancefloor in a very clever way.

4. Melvin Meeks - Groovey Music
My record bag always consist in large parts of older 12"s, simply because I love to discover new "old" records all the time. This has been a favorite of mine for the last couple of weeks.
5. Moon Man - Big Fat Woman
Another old record that is getting lots of play at the moment. Moon Man is an alias of Boo Williams and this came out on of my favorite labels, Green Velvet's Cajual.
