Midlake are set to release their new album 'Antiphon' on November 4th.
After months of speculation, Midlake have finally ended rumours surrounding their future. Frontman Tim Smith has indeed gone, with the singer departing to embark on new projects. Opting to continue, the band went straight back into the studio.
The results are gathered on new album 'Antiphon' which continues that great Midlake tradition of being the same, but different. "It’s always through the scope of Midlake," vocalist / guitarist Eric Pulido explains, "but on Antiphon we wanted to embrace the psychedelia, style and nuance you might hear in bands from yesteryear while also being aware of music influences present now. The result was less folk and more rock. Less nostalgic and more progressive. Now the sky’s the limit."
Early sessions were not a success, with Tim Smith eventually leaving for pastures new. Pulido stepped in as frontman, and it seemed that this change triggered a more communal atmosphere within the band. "'Antiphon' is the most honest representation of the band as a whole, as opposed to one person’s vision that we were trying to facilitate."
