It's that time of year again - the winners of this year's Mercury music prize are set to announced at a special ceremony in London on September 9th.

The Nationwide Mercury Music Prize Awards Show is nearly upon us, and the September 9th extravaganza will feature live performances from many of the nominees including The Last Shadow Puppets, Elbow, Estelle, Neon Neon, Adele, Laura Marling and British Sea Power. The event leads up to the announcement of the winner of the 2008 prize.

The Mercury Music Prize has been one of the most influential and talked about awards in British music for nearly two decades now. This year's nominations includes some surprises which may well be worth placing a bet on. Reclusive dubstep genius Burial is nominated alongside the acclaimed jazz group Portico Quartet, who could both trump more established acts such as Radiohead and Elbow.

Nationwide Mercury Music Prize Awards takes place in London on September 9th.
