First Play: Fujiya & Miyagi – ‘EP2’

Breaking out of traditional formats...

Fujiya & Miyagi have always been concerned with breaking barriers.

The Brighton-based outfit sluice together Krautrock, wonky electronics, and left-field pop tendencies, a molten mixture that flies deliriously in several directions at once.

Building a new batch of material, Fujiya & Miyagi decided that an album simply wouldn't be appropriate. So, they tried something else…

Kicking off a trilogy of EPs, the band have even built a lavish gatefold sleeve so fans can house the material in the same package.

David Best describes the thought process behind the releases:

“We wanted to find a different way to release an album’s worth of songs. Rather than the traditional format of releasing an album in one go we liked the idea of separating it into three distinct segments. As vinyl collectors ourselves we hoped that the idea of the first EP’s packaging containing spaces for the second and third EP releases would appeal to other record lovers too.”

'EP2' drops shortly, but you can hear it up-front on Clash – simply hit play and strap yourself in for the ride…
