Rockness

With Basement Jaxx, Example, Plan B

Location: Lochness, Scotland
Date: 7th-9th June

Taking place in a beautiful valley near the historic loch, Rockness is the perfect setting to enjoy an epic line up of rock, dance and electronic acts.

Since its memorable first year in 2006 where Daft Punk played to 30000 people on the Clash Arena, Rochness has grown in popularity and been named “the most beautiful festival in the world”. It won Best Large Festival and Event Management Grand Prix at the Scottish Event Awards this year and Line Up Of The Year at the UK Festival Awards 2010.

This year’s line up is as strong and diverse as ever, with Plan B heading to Dores for what promises to be an explosive headline performance with his powerful and unique social commentary.

After a tour of sold out headline shows across the globe in 2012, Australian indie rockers The Temper Trap will also play RockNess as part of only a handful of festivals this year. Meticulous arrangements and catchy tracks highlight why they closed the year supporting Coldplay and are destined for greatness in 2013.

Notable for their fusion of styles, irony-laden lyrics, humorous personas and outrageous live performances, RockNess will welcome back Alabama 3. Having impressed at the festival in 2009, it’s likely to be psychedelic, technobilly rave ‘n’ roll underpinned with quality songwriting and accomplished playing.

Joining them will be Basement Jaxx, Madness, Example, The Vaccines, Nic Fianculli, Ben Howard, Jessie Ware, Camera Obscura with 2006 headliner Fatboy Slim returning as a Very Special Guest.

Fatboy Slim posted on his Twitter account in February: “Comin’ home to baby on the shores of Dores…RockNess I’ve missed you…feels so good to be heading back to see how my wayward child has grown. Roll on June, roll on The Scottish Highlands, roll on the party…”

In past years, Fatboy Slim has brought monster levels of raveability to Rockness and this year, he’s likely to bring the same amount of outrageous party euphoria. Old friends Clash have also helped RockNess showcase promising DJs and electronic acts on the Clash Presents stage. Electronic acts confirmed for this year include Above & Beyond, Madeon, Julio Bashmore, Benga and Steve Aoki.

Adding to the music and striking views, there are many other attractions to enjoy, including a cinema, lots of food and drink outlets and a big inflatable church, which has seen plenty of weddings over the years.

Accommodation on the site is easy and convenient, with popular Boutique Camping available in Yurts and Squrts. Sleeping two to eight people, the structures are cosy and watertight and  provide an authentic and bohemian experience. Tangerine Fields is an affordable camping option, where you can hire tents and gear from staff on the site and have camp set up for you.

With music spread across six stages and an annual fancy dress theme (last year’s was Monsters and Aliens), this year’s festival promises to be a haze of colourful costumes and great live acts.
