The Heatwave Pick Out Some Under-Played Carnival Belters

Premiere dancehall crew at the controls...

The Heatwave are simply one of the best dancehall crews around.

The London pairing are crate-diggers extraordinaire, but more than this they actually know how to work a crowd.

An unrelenting experience, The Heatwave are set to roll up to London's KOKO venue this weekend for an ultra-wavey Notting Hill Carnival pre-party.

Expect a show right from the off – whistles, dancers, and more exclusive dubs than you can do the dutty wine to.

Ahead of this, The Heatwave have picked out some under-played carnival belters.

– – –

Beenie Man – 'Hmm Hmm'

Ten points if you can work out what Beenie is referring too when he says ‘Hmm Hmm’.

– – –

Ding Dong – 'Badman Forward Badman Pull Up'

Immediate rewind. This gets pulled up faster than you can say ‘Bad Man Forward…’

– – –

Mr Vegas – 'Jack It Up'

A bashment-girl anthem from Mr Vegas on the brilliant Bookshelf riddim.

– – –

Million Stylez – 'Miss Fatty'

One of those tunes that you can play from the edge and you know it will kill it every time.

– – –

Vybz Kartel – 'Touch A Button'

Badman anthem from Kartel. Have seen this get some crazy reactions.

– – –

Super Beagle – 'Dust Out A Soundbwoy'

The intro alone will get a crazy forward. The actual tune on Stalag riddim is fire.

– – –

Conroy Smith – 'Dangerous'

Stone cold carnival classic. Bass-line is a monster.

– – –

Junior Reid – 'One Blood'

Great tune, brilliant message summing up what Carnival is all about.

– – –

Elephant Man – Bun Bad Mind'

This tune is like the golden rule of carnival: bun out bad mind. Which basically means exterminate negative vibes.

– – –

Beenie Man – 'Romie'

If this doesn’t get wheeled up in the first 20 seconds you are not at carnival, you have got lost on the way and ended up at another street party.

– – –

Mavado – 'Last Night'

Gangster anthem from the ‘Gully God’ AKA Mavado.

– – –

Singing Sweet – 'When I See You Smile'

This tune is a staple in any carnival sound systems box – and again it communicates a key carnival message – its all about smiling!

Hot Wuk Truck Party with The Heatwave hits London's KOKO venue on August 27th.
