A self appointed ‘community of dreamers and designers dedicated to perfectly timed accessories and rooted in the Belgian tradition of fierce dedication to quality and craft,’ Komono is perhaps one of the more exciting labels of the contemporary accessories market.
Dealing in watches and eyewear, the seven year old brand’s latest line-up follows in the Komono Curated tradition of marrying said objects – in this case the former – with some of the art world’s most influential names; Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Rementer are both previous collaborators.
Announced with a bang (read: guided tour) of the artist’s namesake museum in Brussels last week – intro’d by CEO and one of the founding parties, Anton Janssens – René Magritte holds SS16’s spotlight.
One of the Surrealist movement’s leading figures and sartorially infamous as a champion of the bowler hat, six of the Belgian painter’s works have been reimagined in watch form by the label, amongst them ‘The Dream’s Key’, ‘The Art Of Living’ and ‘The Castle Of The Pyrenees’.
Elsewhere Komono has tapped Clash contributor Mat Maitland for the accompanying video and campaign, above. A collage artist and creative director whose aesthetic dabbles with modern surrealism, for this project Maitland borrowed typical Magritte symbols such as fluffy clouds and the aforementioned bowler.
