FRI.day: Soulland x Nike SB

The pair collaborate on a new project for skater Eric Koston.

If you were following the right Instagram accounts last week – during Copenhagen’s International Fashion Fair, or CIFF as it is more widely credited – you’re likely already versed in Soulland’s latest hook up. If not, let us aid your sartorial curiosity: the Danish label has collaborated with Nike SB on an exclusive new line called FRI.day, produced for skater Eric Koston.

“When asked by Eric and Nike SB if we wanted to work on a project it was a no brainer,” explains the former’s creative director, Silas Adler. “Eric has been one of my childhood heroes growing up from the skateboard community.”

“We wanted to go in two directions with the collection,” he continues, “with half being experimental and style driven, I guess you can say for a fashion kid or sneakerhead. The other half is practical and functional with close attention to detail.”

The resulting collection, modelled by Koston above, is exactly that: a confident marriage of strong aesthetics and clever design, made up of two pro model shoes – the Zoom Eric Koston QS and the Hyperfeel Koston 3 – as well as seven pieces of apparel (both sweats and suiting).

Elsewhere the capsule’s moniker, FRI.day, nods not to Rebecca Black’s favourite week day, but instead references the Danish word for ‘free’ – ‘fri' (should that have been a question plaguing your mind).

For his part the American pro says he was “honoured and excited to be able to work together with Silas and Soulland… it’s a perfect fit! I feel like his meticulous attention to detail and sense of humour really shine through in this collaboration.”
