Both heavyweights in their field, with an impressive history and ultimate classic status, you could well liken the latest development from Dr. Martens to the re-haul of Converse All Star’s circa summer ’15.
Where in the latter’s case the work was predominantly internal (the brand upped its comfort factor with a new sole), in the case of the subculture defining DM’s, the exterior gives good showcase.
Dropping this week then, the brand launches a new lightweight collection for AW16, challenging the tough aesthetic and weighty status of several key models: it’s the biggest evolution of that classic silhouette since its 60’s inception.
Comprised of just six shoes and three styles – the Newton 8-Eye Boot, the Cavendish 3-Eye Shoe and the Edison Tassel Loafer have all undergone a revision, produced in black or cherry red throughout – the collection has been labelled ‘A new icon of rebellious self-expression’ by the powers up top, while fans of the brand (see James Massiah, pictured above), have taken to the new lite like a duck to water. Or something.
