Band Of Outsiders x Mackintosh

The LA label hooks up with a Scottish classic.

This week Polaroid friendly label Band of Outsiders has adopted the Scottish heritage brand Mackintosh, releasing an exciting new line of the latter’s famed outerwear.

Hooking up for a Mr Porter exclusive, the capsule collaboration is the first between the pair, which sees Scott Sternberg’s LA label (campaign faces include Frank Ocean and Kirsten Dunst) infiltrate the more traditional aesthetic adopted by the brand (whose primary product was developed in 1823).

Using Sternberg’s AW14 collection for palette reference, the Dunkeld jacket is smothered in Latin dummy text (‘Lorem Ipsum’), while a second coat takes on a fading check pattern.

More casual pieces (complete with hoods!) are awarded complimentary shades of playful green, blue and yellow, noting the sub-preppy features found in typical Band of Outsiders’ collections.

The partnership is evident of Mackintosh’s “contemporary relevance” suggests John Sugden, Marketing and Sales Director of the brand, who adds, “The playful nature of the Band of Outsiders brand marries perfectly with the classic aesthetic of Mackintosh and creates a unique and fresh offering.”

Band of Outsiders’ Creative Director Scott meanwhile, finds Mackintosh “exactly the type of brand we try to collaborate with: expert craftsmen who make a unique and singular product. We are having a lot of fun playing with their traditional shapes, fabrics and techniques.”

The collection is the first in a series, which will continue into 2015.
