Aitor Throup: 10 Year Anniversary

The studio celebrates its first decade with a new web space.

“In January 2013 I presented the culmination of years of research and development… I had achieved a personally satisfactory level of storytelling and product innovation, which had been my commitment up to that point.”

Taken from Aitor Throup’s SS17 press release, the nod here to 2013 is a reference to the multidisciplinary designer’s first ‘New Object Research’ show.

The second of these presentations took place at London Collections: Men last month – subtitled ‘The Rite of Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter’ – while this week Throup drops the design studio’s next big development: a new website, marking a decade in the industry.

With a confident ten year archive, the new .com space is the latest rejection of mainstream practice (it serves no commercial purpose for one thing), instead boasting the characteristics of an elaborate CV: collaborations with Damon Albarn and G-Star Raw feature alongside previous exhibitions and sketchbook work.

Never one for conforming, the site offers a concise visual display in a similar vein to an exhibition or retrospective catwalk show, employed instead via a more accessible medium.
