U-Live Tour Details

Dan Le Sac And More Confirmed

October is a bit of a miserable month for many Brits.

If September is now our official Indian Summer then October signals the sudden onset of winter: woollies on, windows closed, worried pensioners. In the people’s republic of studentland, however, October is the recommencement of the rock and roll lifestyle after months of crap jobs and tutting parents. And in recent years that R&R lifestyle has been given a bit of a turbo boost. ULive is a landmark collaboration between the UK’s student venues, bringing together the stages that spawned many of our finest talents under one mutually beneficial umbrella. Throughout the uni year a series of high-profile tours will be careering across the nation’s campuses, beginning in October with a couple of our most entertainingly oddball acts.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip have progressed from bedroom beatmaking and the poetry circuit respectively to a pre-eminent position on the UK pop/rap/experimental scene. Their breakthrough track ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’ proved to be anything but a flash in the pan and the album ‘Angles’ emerged over the summer to much acclaim.

That album was released on Sunday Best records, a label they joined because, as le Sac admitted on ClashMusic.com back in April, “they just signed Kid Carpet so it’s a good opportunity to get some free KC stuff.” Now they’ll get the opportunity to see several live shows, as he’s on the tour too.

Carpet is a genuine eccentric with a hint of genius, bashing out bizarrely catchy pop on all manner of archaic keyboards and kids’ instruments. His new album, ‘Casio Royale’, is actually a more focused and adult affair, relatively speaking, but is still awash with quirky nuggets.

As for their shows, both the Carpet and le Sac/Pip live experiences are jaw-dropppingly entertaining, so the ULive collective is getting off to a storming start.
