Das Pop

Smooth Belgian Indie Pop

Fresh from appearing at Clash Club, Das Pop are soon to release a debut album produced by no less than fellow Countrymen, David and Stephen Dewaele, otherwise known as Soulwax.

Recorded at London’s Konk and Toerag Studios, the album will be released on Ugly Truth records, the label that signed the band after their 2007 appearance at Manchester’s In The City conference. Originally formed by three teenage school friends in Ghent, Belgium (also Soulwax’s base), they added a drummer from New Zealand and wasted no time turning heads with their sophisticated, danceable hook laden indie pop.

A long from their teenage prog rock starting point. As if having heavyweights Soulwax on board wasn’t kudos enough, early sponsors were France’s Justice who included an early version of the band’s Underground’ on a Fabric mix cd. While band has also benefited from another Frenchman, SebastiAn, turning their ‘Fool For Love’ into an electro monster. So, with all those golden eared Europeans at hand, the band has a lot of expectation on it’s shoulders. Expectations easily handled by the pan continental four piece who revel in making sophisticated pop, polished strings multi tracked vocals and all.

Whisper it, but Das Pop could be The Feeling it’s okay to like, operating in a similar sonic field but with less of the overly cheesey references (and moon faced celebrity wives).
